Set Up Your WiFi Extender

Before beginning, place the extender in the same room as your main router. Plug it into a working electrical outlet and wait for its power light to become stable.

Setup Using a Web Browser

1. Turn on the WiFi extender.
2. Open the WiFi settings on your phone, tablet or computer.
3. Connect your device to the extender’s default WiFi network. The network name may appear as NETGEAR_EXT or another name printed on the extender label.
4. Open a current web browser.
5. Enter mywifiext.net in the address bar if you are using Windows or Android.
6. If you are using a Mac or iPhone, try mywifiext.local.
7. Follow the displayed setup instructions.
8. Select your existing home WiFi network.
9. Enter the WiFi password for your main router.
10. Choose a name and password for the extended network.
11. Save the settings and wait for the extender to restart.
12. Move the extender to a position approximately halfway between the router and the area with a weak WiFi signal.

Why Is Mywifiext.net Not Opening?

Mywifiext.net is normally used as a local setup address. It is not an ordinary public website. The address may only open when your phone or computer is connected directly to the extender’s WiFi network.

If the page does not load:

• Confirm that the extender is powered on.
• Connect your device to the extender’s WiFi rather than mobile data or another network.
• Type the address into the browser’s address bar, not a search box.
• Try both http://mywifiext.net and https://mywifiext.net.
• On an Apple device, try mywifiext.local.
• Temporarily switch off mobile data, VPN or proxy connections.
• Clear the browser cache or open a private browsing window.
• Try another browser or connected device.
• Restart the extender, router and computer.
• Use the extender’s assigned IP address if the local address remains unavailable.

Mywifiext Login Instructions

If the extender has already been configured:

1. Connect your device to the extender’s network.
2. Open a browser and enter mywifiext.net or mywifiext.local.
3. Enter the administrator credentials created during the original setup.
4. Open the extender dashboard.
5. Review the connected network, WiFi settings, firmware status and attached devices.

The extender administrator password may be different from your normal home WiFi password. If the login details are not accepted, use the password-recovery option when available. Otherwise, the extender may need to be reset and configured again.

Connect an Extender Using WPS

WPS can connect compatible equipment without requiring browser-based setup.

1. Place the extender near the router and turn it on.
2. Wait for the power indicator to become stable.
3. Press the WPS button on the extender.
4. Within two minutes, press the WPS button on the router.
5. Wait for the connection indicator to illuminate.
6. If you also want to extend a separate 5 GHz network, repeat the process when supported.
7. Move the extender to a suitable location.
8. Connect your devices to the extended WiFi network.

Some routers supplied by internet providers disable WPS. Use browser-based setup if the WPS connection fails.

Extender Connected but No Internet

An extender can broadcast a WiFi signal even when it has lost its connection to the main router. If your device connects to the extended network but cannot access the internet:

1. Check whether the main router itself has internet access.
2. Move the extender closer to the router.
3. Restart the modem, router and extender in that order.
4. Wait for each device to finish starting before turning on the next one.
5. Forget the extended network on your phone or computer.
6. Reconnect using the correct WiFi password.
7. Sign in through mywifiext and confirm that the correct router network is selected.
8. Check for an extender firmware update.
9. Reset and reinstall the extender if the saved connection information is no longer correct.

If the main router’s WiFi name or password was recently changed, the extender will usually need to be reconnected using the new information.

Choosing the Best Extender Location

Correct placement is essential for reliable performance. Position the extender where it can still receive a strong signal from the router.

Avoid placing it:

• Inside a cabinet
• Behind a television
• Beside a microwave
• Near large metal objects
• On the floor
• At the far edge of the router’s existing WiFi coverage

Use the extender’s router-link indicator, when available, to evaluate its connection. A poor link means the extender should be moved closer to the router.

How to Reset a WiFi Extender

A factory reset removes the saved network name, password and administrator settings.

1. Keep the extender connected to power.
2. Locate the recessed Reset or Factory Reset opening.
3. Press it carefully with a paper clip.
4. Hold it until the power indicator begins flashing.
5. Release the button.
6. Allow the extender to restart completely.
7. Reconnect to its default WiFi network.
8. Complete the mywifiext setup process again.

Resetting should normally be used after other troubleshooting steps have failed or when the administrator password cannot be recovered.

Update Extender Firmware

Firmware updates may improve stability, compatibility and security.

1. Connect to the extender’s network.
2. Sign in to its management interface.
3. Find Firmware Update, Maintenance or Administration.
4. Check for an available update.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Keep the extender powered on until the process finishes.
