NETGEAR Extender Keeps Disconnecting
Repeated disconnects can originate on either side of the extender: router-to-extender backhaul or client-to-extender WiFi. Diagnosing which link drops prevents unnecessary resets.
1. Separate backhaul from client drops
Test multiple clients. If every device drops together, suspect the extender uplink or power. If only one device drops, focus on that client/roaming behavior.
- Observe LEDs during a dropout.
- Test a second client.
- Compare direct-router stability.
2. Improve router-to-extender signal
A marginal backhaul can oscillate as interference changes.
- Move the extender closer to the router.

With one shared network name, clients decide when to roam. A client can cling to a weak access point.

Loose outlets, switched sockets and overheating can cause full extender reboots that look like WiFi drops.

After placement/power checks, update firmware if an official newer release addresses stability or security.
