EAX18 setup options
Set the extender up where it can receive a strong router signal, then move it toward the coverage area after configuration is verified. Compatible NETGEAR mesh extenders can be managed through their local web interface, and model/firmware support can also include app-assisted workflows.
WiFi 6 and mesh behaviour
The EAX18 is a WiFi 6 mesh extender. Client performance still depends on the router link, placement, radio environment and client capability; WiFi 6 branding does not compensate for a weak backhaul.
Local login and wireless settings
When connected to the extender network, use the local management route supported by the device. NETGEAR’s mesh-extender guidance places wireless settings under the extender interface and documents changing SSID/password from the Wireless settings page.
Firmware update
NETGEAR has published EAX18 firmware and documents mesh-extender updates through the local interface under Settings > Firmware Update. Keep power stable during an update and use firmware intended for the exact model.

Placement
NETGEAR’s performance guidance for mesh extenders recommends a position roughly halfway between the router and poor-coverage area while maintaining a good router signal. Treat that as a test point and adjust for walls and floors.

EAX18 setup checklist
Before setup, confirm the router itself has internet, note the exact WiFi name/password and place the EAX18 close enough to the router for a reliable first connection. Complete setup and test a client before choosing the final outlet. NETGEAR’s current general setup and placement guidance explicitly lists EAX18 among supported WiFi 6 extenders.
Access-point option
NETGEAR’s access-point installation guidance includes EAX18. If Ethernet is available between the router/network and the target area, AP mode can use that wired path rather than repeating the router wirelessly. This changes the likely bottleneck and can be valuable where floors or dense walls make wireless backhaul unreliable.
Password and reconnect behaviour
NETGEAR’s password guidance includes EAX18 and distinguishes an extender using the existing router password from one configured with a different password. If the router password changes, use the reconnection workflow before resetting the EAX18. A client password problem and an extender-to-router authentication problem are separate faults.
Reset only for configuration recovery
A normal reboot preserves settings; a factory reset erases them. Use reset when you cannot recover the configuration or intentionally need a clean setup. After resetting, configure near the router and relocate only after the upstream connection is stable.
